Ska / Rock / Reggae

Ska (pronounced /ska/ or in Jamaican Patois /skja/) is a music genre that originated in Jamaica in the late 1950s and was a precursor to rocksteady and reggae.

We are a band that likes to think outside of the box….a non-conformist entity if you will. Even that very concept is a mind boggling affair, due to the fact that if you are a non-conformist you are clearly conforming to something.

We are, of course, a ska band. Like other bands, only limited to our own mind's stretch and musical ability. In fact one of the only differences between good punk music and ska is the horns. A dying art as it is said……or is it?

We are in an interesting position today in the world of music. I'm sure you've noticed that your favorite bands aren't playing in really huge venues anymore. The lack of smoke(cigarette cigar and…other) in the concert halls…the very carefully controlled time limits for bands to play (not past ten etc.)Not to mention that they're in a smaller venue so….. the lower decibel levels at which concerts are played. The smoke of many things, the huge venues being out past one and the roaring 125 decibel level of the band…..all things that make the experience worth while. I know that the smoke thing isn't really a pleasant thing…..oh wait it is …..because if you take away that, there isn't anything left except cheap perfume/cologne for a brief period……then it's all sweat.

Needless to say, I'm not sure why the above is happening. Perhaps it is because we (as a country)are in a recession (contrary to our presidents belief)So the big rig record companies can't afford to put up the green for a huge production anymore. Or maybe it's because no one wants to go to a concert when they can just watch it on a 47 inch plasma from the comfort of their own home (or perhaps listen to it on their I-pod)no thanks to our growing technology.

What I am sure of is that times are changing. These winds of change are exactly what brings forth a new wave of ska.(not to mention offers worlds of opportunity to Indie labels)And of course ,we're gonna be right there riding the break of number 4.
